There are some simple things you can do with your settings to tailor the website to your needs. My Computer My Way is a helpful resource from AbilityNet: it is a step-by-step guide on how to make adjustments on your device to make websites and apps easier to see, hear and use.

Tips from My Computer My Way include:

  • How to make text and icons larger.

  • How to set up pointer actions.

  • How to use voice control.

  • How to change fonts.

  • How to change website colours.

  • How to use the accessibility options shortcuts.

Ways that the website is accessible:

  • Alt text has been provided for all images where applicable.

  • Links have been given appropriate titles to make it clear where each link takes you.

  • Website has been optimised so if zoomed in, nothing overlaps or becomes distorted.

  • Headlines have been labeled as headings (given heading tags), as well as section titles, to make it clear when a new section starts.

  • We have no videos or sound, but if we do we will include plain text documents where needed.

  • Our magazine comes with a plain text version PDF.

  • The DOM is automatically arranged so visitors who use keyboards and screen readers can navigate our site. Our site is also  automatically rendered with the correct language so screen readers can understand our content.

  • Smart focus rings automatically appear when a keyboard is being used and feature dual colours so keyboard users can better navigate our site.

  • Colours on our buttons have been altered to ensure they stand out against similar background colours within the suggested percentage.

  • We have tried to use easy-read fonts, but we are open to feedback regarding our font choices.

Where we are not fully accessible (yet):

  • We do not yet have a plain text or audio recording version of our website.
